Kayleigh & Darragh Win Silver Medals Kayleigh Gibbons and Darragh Zaidan took a Silver Medal each in the Leinster Road Race championships on Sunday (august 23rd) The result is even more remarkable happening just One Day after helping Leinster win the Interprovincial Track Championships - and just one week after Lucans 8 Medal Winning haul at the National Track Championships.
Kayleigh Gibbons came close to winning her race - Leading the event out from the last mile. The Irish National Track Champion tired towards the finish - and was pipped on the line by a late dash from Caoimhe Ivory from Bray Wheelers. Both Girls have been pushing each other hard both on Road and Track this season - and it was no surprise that they would take the top two spots in the Leinster Road Race championships. Darragh Zaidan and Ross Grogan lined up for the under 16 race. Ross and Darragh made the break on the first lap - as the leading bunch reduced down to six riders. Darragh was riding very strong, pushing on the break - Ross lost contact on the 2nd lap. Five riders contested the medal positions - with Darragh Zaidan looking to have lost out - back in 5th position approaching 200m to go. Darragh accelerated fast for the line - showing the speed that has earned him a National Silver Medal in Track Sprint last week - and the young Lucan rider narrowly lost out on the win crossing the line with a Leinster Road Race Silver Medal to add to his National Time Trial Bronze and National Track Silver Medals for this season. Ross Grogan finished close behind taking 6th prize for Lucan. |
