Coach Stephen Gibbons has proved himself a valuable member of Lucan CRC this season - contributing to the Youth Teams amazing success and improvement this year both on Road and Track.

The course was co-presented by Alex Wharton (Cardiff) and Derek Marloe (Herne Hill) both experienced Derny Drivers and qualified instructors with British Cycling.

===========

Conditions were far from idea as the windy conditions made it difficult for the drivers to maintain a steady speed as is essential for training but with feedback from the following riders and some slight adjustments the drivers were soon getting on top of the difficult condtions.

Cycling Ireland recently purchased a Derny for use by the Track Commission and our course presenters brought it over along with another 4 for use on the course. Many thanks to Will Byrne and Geoff Liffey for their work with our insurers to clear the way for the use of a Derny and to Liam Walker to clear the way for its use at Sundrive. The course involved practical instruction on Friday evening in Bray Wheelers Clubhouse and extensive training on the track all day Saturday. The course was attended by local track coaches as well as coaches from the track at Orangefield.

Derny pacing will not only clear the way for Keirin racing but more importantly it is a very useful training aid for pacing and extended speedwork. Our presenters were hugely experienced track coaches also and we very much enjoyed spending the weekend with them and for all the nuggets of knowledge we extracted from them during the course.  We would also like to thank the riders who gave their time to assist with the running of the course
