Kayleigh Performs Well In Holland: LCRCs Double National and Leinster Youth Track Champion Kayleigh Gibbons has just returned from a week of Racing and training at Alkmaar Velodrome with top Track coach Herman Schenk (Mon Nov 2nd to Sun Nov 8th).
Click Here For Trip Details: Kayleigh was put through a hectic schedule of Training and racing - and the young Irish National Champion quickly realised the gap between winning in Ireland, and competing in European events. We had asked Jennifer O'Reilly (National Sprint Champion) to accompany our young Lucan rider - and O'Reilly was a good role model for the up and coming youth star - with a disciplined approach to her Training and Racing (Winning all her Events). Kayleigh was racing on the day after her arrival at the Velodrome (Tuesday 3rd) - in a Devil Take the hindmost, and a Winners Race event. The 14 year old Lucan rider was back on Wednesday for two hours Sprint Training - followed by further Track Training on Thursday amongst almost 80 Dutch Track riders. More sprint training followed on Friday, and there would be no rest on Saturday - as Gibbons and O'Reilly were invited to take part in an early morning Track training session. The two Irish riders travelled to Amsterdam on Sunday for their final races. Gibbons competed well in Sprints and a Keirin - With O'Reilly showing her experience by winning all her events. Kayleigh reported back to LCRC Coaches on Monday evening after a very positive and successful trip for the young Sprinter.She will now take a well earned rest (Including a trip to Manchester Velodrome to watch the revolution Series) – before starting winter training early next week Report From Jennifer O'Reilly to Follow
