Whelan Wins At Manchester Velodrome Adamstown Cycling Road Club riders Roisin Kennedy and Brendan Whelan have just completed four days at Manchester Velodrome last weekend with two days of Racing and Two days of Training. Both riders performed well with whelan taking Three Wins and a 2nd place from his four Races
Click Here For Trip Details: Both Riders were racing in the Manchester Regional Track League on Friday Night (February 13th) and the ACT Track League on Monday Night (February 16th). Although both riders have recently trained at Alkmaar Velodrome in Holland, and Whelan competed in last year’s European Masters Championships – they have very little experience with racing on a steep Indoor Velodrome. Approximately 100 riders had signed on for the evenings races, and Roisin Kennedy was first up with a good performance in a 16 Lap Points race. Brendan Whelan followed this up with his first of three Wins of the night in the 20 Lap Scratch Race – just avoiding a crash in the closing laps. Kennedy put in a better Ride in the 16 Lap Scratch Race – Leading the race until the final four laps. Whelan won his second race of the night with some good Sprinting in the Devil Race – another Crash leaving the race neutralized for a few laps. Roisin was outsprinted after a few laps of her Devil Race – and Brendan was narrowly defeated in the 1km Scratch Race, Taking 2nd Prize after misjudging a late attack. Lucan Veteran Sprinter Brendan Whelan Finished the evenings racing with yet another Win – In the 25 Lap Scratch Race.
There was no Valentine’s Day rest for the Lucan Competitors – as the Riders also took part in a tough SQT (Structured Quality Training) on Saturday – and were part of the iteam.co.uk training session on Sunday 3pm to 5pm. The ACT Track League on Monday Night (February 16th) was their last event – both Lucan riders were very tired by this stage, and although they performed well in their four events – Top three placings eluded them. Both riders were regular competitors at the Cycleways Track League last Season, with Adamstown CRC placing four Track Riders in the overall prizes. |
